To create the two alternate versions of my résumé, I used AI to help me reframe my experience for different industries. I began by giving the prompt: “Rewrite my résumé to fit a marketing/social media role. Highlight skills like communication, creativity, customer service, and event support.” This prompt helped the AI focus on the strengths that matter in marketing. For the second résumé, I used: “Rewrite my résumé for a childcare/education role. Emphasize youth experience, coaching, mentorship, and safety.”
Between the versions, I noticed that the wording of my responsibilities changed depending on what each field values. For example, my volunteer photography and leadership experience became more important in the marketing version, while my coaching and babysitting responsibilities were emphasized in the childcare version. The AI also reorganized the skills sections to match each industry’s priorities.
Through this process, I learned that prompt engineering is really about clarity and intent. The more specific the prompt, the more effectively the AI can reshape information for a different audience. This taught me how important it is to adjust language when applying for jobs in different fields.
